It is an open-air market under a bridge and is probably one of the best places I have been in Europe. It is interesting to think about the fact that many Europeans know that there is a difference between New York and New York City, but many Americans do not know of even the existence of the City of London.Īnyway, my favorite place to visit by far to visit is what I have now found to be called the Borough Market. But my ignorance of this distinction, and most likely yours too, only highlights Americans’ ethnocentrism, even with regards to an English-speaking country. The City of London is different from London.
Fun fact: the Rosetta Stone was written on my birthday, March 27th, in 196 B.C.Īnother interesting place we went was the City of London. We saw Buckingham Palace, lots of bridges (including Tower Bridge), the Tower of London, Oxford University, a castle I don’t remember the name of, Stonehenge, Big Ben, the department store Harrod’s, Hyde Park, the London Eye, Westminster Abbey, Shakespeare’s Globe Theater, two musicals on the West End (London’s Broadway), Abbey Road (where I walked across the street like Paul who is by far the best Beatle), and the Rosetta Stone. It wasn’t worth it, except for the fact that I bought a deerstalker that I wear whenever I watch Sherlock now. One day we waited for two hours in the cold and rain to get into 221B. The hotel was a complete surprise when we got there (yay for dads!), and the Sherlock Holmes museum was only a couple of buildings down. So, we spent the week from Christmas to New Years in the Sherlock Holmes Hotel on Baker Street in London. Because of this, and also because I had been religiously watching Sherlock on Netflix, I suggested going to England, and my dad said “yes”. As a result, we discussed going to Peru and seeing Machu Picchu, but since it was such late notice we could not get the correct passes (I would eventually go to Peru for three weeks, but, again, more on that in later posts). I think my dad wanted to take me abroad since, in the summer of that same year, my mom had taken me on a three-week vacation around Europe (but more on that in later posts). So, in 2012, we decided to be spontaneous and switch it up. We always had a great time, but eventually it began to feel a bit repetitive for the both of us. If you’re a normal teenage girl, like me, you’ll find Benedict Cumberbatch attractive because he’s only like the most beautiful human that God ever put on earth.
